On the opening day of SMM in Hamburg, the maritime publication Skipsrevyen hosted their annual "Ship of the Year" award at the NAVTOR booth.
This year's winner was the MS "Medstraum", a fully electric fast ferry that soon will operate in Norway's Stavanger area. The shipyard Fjellstrand verft and the owner Kolumbus received the award on behalf of the vessel.
The jury selected MS "Medstraum" not just for all the technical innovations in this build but also for the tremendous transferrable value for other vessels in this category and the maritime sector in general. The research and development project EU H2020 has supported the shipbuilding project.
Skipsrevyen writes:
-Readers and the jury of Skipsrevyen would like to honour a shipping company, shipyard and a design for setting a new standard in the transition towards greener shipping. Propulsion systems in new ship builds have seen more and more fuel and emissions reduction through new technology. This year's winner joins this trend, says the jury leader Gustav Erik Blaalid
The NAVTOR team would like to congratulate MS "Medstraum" with the award and celebrate the other finalists MS "Viking Polaris" and MF "Ryfylke", nominated for their innovative solutions and for contributing to the transition toward sustainable shipping.
The NAVTOR team is proud to deliver services to all the Ship of the Year-finalist nominees in 2022.
