Impact to ADMIRALTY and IMO Products and Services from the Coronavirus - Update #02
Admiralty
From UKHO we have received the following information
In response to the current issues created by the Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic, the UKHO are being notified of impacts to the availability of Foreign Government Hydrographic Office products and services, which in turn will impact their own products.
The UKHO have released the following information highlighting France and the Philippines and will provide updates as they learn more:
France
We have been notified by the French Hydrographic Office (SHOM) that with effect from Wednesday 18 March, until further notice, no updates – including Notices To Mariner, SNC New Editions and ENC updates will be made to their products. This is in response to the current issues created by the Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic.
NAVAREA warnings will be used by France to issue the most critical navigational information.
As the respective ADMIRALTY services use French data to be kept up to date, our own products which are reliant on that data from France will likewise be affected and will not receive updates.
Caution is advised when navigating using these products.
Philippines
We have been notified of the following from the Philippines Hydrographic Office;
Due to the recent Government imposition of the Enhanced Community Quarantine for the whole island of Luzon, the NAMRIA - Hydrography Branch will stop its regular activities until further notice. Navigational Warnings and monthly Notices to Mariners will still be promulgated in order to ensure safety of navigation.
IMO Publications
From IMO we have received the following information
Due to the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) Emergency, IMO Publishing is currently only able to provide customers with digital products. These include e-books and e-readers, online subscription and download products.
Please be assured that our editorial and production team, who are all working remotely, will continue to produce all new editions of publications which do not rely on an IMO meeting having taken place. These new titles, however, will be released in digital format only pending resumption of normal services.
We regret that we are currently unable to predict how long this situation will continue and thank all customers for their patience and understanding.
NAVTOR will continue to provide these valuable updates as and when we receive them.
